aRTIST’S bIOGRAPHY

Born in Washington, D. C., Jeanne has lived in southern California since she was four years old. Although she has always nurtured her passion for art, she did not venture into painting until 11 years ago, when, as she puts it, “I walked into a new and exciting world of self-expression.”

Beginning with portraiture in pastel and colored pencil, she was fortunate enough to have discovered a master instructor, Rafael Maniago, with whom she still works today. Together they have made some interesting, joyful journeys into art.

Her works also include wildlife, marine life, florals, Southwest landscapes, architectural impressions, portraiture and photography. Close to the Jazz Scene, Jeanne has created pastels of numerous jazz greats for several of the Los Angeles Jazz Society Awards Banquets. They include Kenny Burrell, Herman Leonard, the premier Jazz photographer, Ernie Andrews, and Gerald Wiggins, each of whom have the originals in their private collections.

Other portraits in their private collections are an oil of Michael Flatley, Lord of the Dance, a charcoal rendering of Stephen Hawking, Cambridge University Professor of Astronomy, and several pastels of Dale Chihuly, master glass artist, and his son, Jackson.

Jeanne took part in a two artist show in December of 2001 at the Backstreet Gallery in West Los Angeles entitled “Which America”, which was well received, resulting in her first major commercial success.

Since visiting Maui for the first time in April 2004, she has completed over 30 works describing her “love affair“ with what she has named MIMO….“the MAN in the MIDDLE of the OCEAN. “ These are comprised mostly of pastels, photography and charcoals. In preparation are a project entitled “Give My Regards to Maui—(paintings, poetry, videography and photography) , a book entitled “through the garden and beyond the wall”— ( poetry and stories inspired by the accompanying photos) and a story/ film about the California Gray Whales, entitled “Simple Greetings”.

Jeanne is currently represented by Maui Art Central, 326 Hanamau Street, Kahului. Maui. 808-871-1515.
